The Lion Keeper
The Lion keeper was feeling sick,
so he stayed home to recover.
A replacement was needed
to feed all the cats but
that made the keepers all shudder.
No one came forward,
not one volunteer.
All too busy, they cowered in fear.
A new boy stepped up and offered to do it.
He strode up to the den, shouted
“Eat up!” and “Chew it!”
The zoo had at last found a brave boy.
so he was promoted to Lion Master,
while the ill keeper cried tears of joy.
p.s. This poem didn’t quite make it into my Weirdo Zoo collection, but I really like how lame the original Lion Keeper is, so I had to share. I’m hopefully sending my collection out on submission today. Hooray!

Ditto Hooray!!! Happy, hopeful, super positive submission vibes coming your way, Catherine. Love this charming poem, and the original Lion Keeper photo seals the deal
Thanks Barbara! That lion keeper is better than I imagined him.
Love the poem, but the photo is quite disturbing! Just me???
I know, I could write a horror poem and he’d still go well.
I LOVE your poem!
It’s great!
Thanks Erik. I hope I don’t change my mind about keeping it out of the collection now that I’ve published it on here.
That was cute! Go little boy!
Thanks Juliana. The boy in the poem is a bit older than that you’ll be pleased to know. We don’t need any Weirdo zoo casualties
Fun poem, Catherine, though I may have nightmares about that crying zookeeper. Congrats on the submission — fingers crossed for you!
I found you! Thanks a lot, Renee.
Very Cute. Weirdo Zoo sounds like so much fun!
Thanks Penny, I’ve just printed it off ready to go to the post office, how exciting!
Yay, that’s exciting!
Feels so good to finish something Rena. Thanks so much for being my beta! I couldn’t have done it without you.
That man’s face is a riot!
I know. We should put him on Pinterest make him famous
Very fun poem, Catherine
Good luck with the submission!
Cheers Mike
