Apples and Butterflies by Shauntay Grant and illustrated by Tamara Thiebaux Heikalo
Nimbus Publishing, October 5th, 2012. Fiction.
Suitable for all ages.
Opening:
My dad has bagged up all the leaves
a shadow hides the place I call home.
Synopsis: (Amazon)
Apples and Butterflies is a gentle, lyrical poem about a family’s autumn vacation that shows Prince Edward Island in a light we don’t often see—the “bright blue and orange light” of fall. Tamara Thiébaux-Heikalo’s rich and wild illustrations build a narrative with the text, depicting the family beachcombing, flying kites and picking apples. Shauntay Grant’s award-winning poetry makes readers long to go with her and conveys the wide-open space of the island.
Activities:
Kids could brainstorm where they would go on holiday if they could go anywhere and what activities they would do and not want to do on holiday.
Here are some outdoor activities kids will love.
Vivian can Show You How to keep children occupied using their imaginations in her book Show Me How.
It’s kind of neat showing you a book about holidaying on Prince Edward Island because that’s where my CP lives. Hi Denise!
Don’t forget more picture books over on Susanna’s blog and huge congrats to Christie Wild, one of my first picture book buddies, she has a contract on her first picture book. Hooray!
