Be Glad Your Eyes Are On Your Face

Inspired by listening to Jack Prelutsky’s poems in

my 6yr old Matthew came up with his first ever poem that I’d like to share with you today:

Be glad your eyes on your face
and other poems too. (he wrote to)
What about a big big clue,
I know just what to do.

He loves rhyme and did really well here.

The thing I love about Mr. Prelutsky’s poems is how he brings together two or more completely different things and makes a poem out of them and he is the master of the surprise twist at the end. If you can’t think of new ideas to mix together, you could randomly mix interesting characters from YouTube, like this giant rabbit:

Dragon Boy

Can you think of a poem using either the two video characters or a spin on the Jack Prelutsky title? Feel free to write a poem in the comments.

    • It’s great to see young kids showing an interest, especially since Matthew is a bit reluctant with reading for pleasure. I bet your grandchildren were great poets. It’s in the family.
